Wakosta?! is an educational initiative by Welzijn13, a social welfare organisation serving the Zuid-West-Vlaanderen region. Their goal is to make complex financial topics like budgeting, saving, insurance and taxes accessible to young people from the age of 12. The Wakosta?! in Beeld series brings these topics to life through short animated videos, developed in collaboration with students and teachers from BuSo and OKAN and published on YouTube. This project showcases the final series of three videos, focused on taxes.

Before touching a single frame, I spent a full day with the Wakosta organisation observing how they teach these topics through games and interactive activities. I watched when the kids were engaged and when they drifted. The conclusion was clear: the subject matter is complex, so everything around it had to be simple. Clean visuals, playful movement and a style that felt native to the audience.
That research shaped every creative decision. The character designs were built to be friendly and approachable, the animation style deliberately childlike to hold attention without overwhelming. When the content is already asking a lot of a young viewer, the motion has to carry them through, not compete with them.
Programs
Hired by KREW Collective, I handled the full production pipeline from storyboard and design to animation and sound design, all based on a provided script. Every element was built with the target audience in mind. The characters became the anchor of the series, giving young viewers something familiar to follow across episodes. Looking back, I have grown a lot since these were made. But the foundation of research, intention and craft is something I carry into every project since.
